Defining Your Career Objectives And Understanding Perfomance Appraisal

You can remember that we said in the introductory part of this course that some of us are not aware of the power of their thoughts and therefore go about life as if they just happen to find themselves in it and they are therefore driven by it in different directions without them having any sought of control.

The good thing about learning how to create your new realities is that you learn to think about yourself, life, and how to develop in the different directions; be it personal, career, or academic development. That you can consciously choose your reality (destiny); the pains and joys you go through in life.

However, at your age you probably have lost faith in defining your own life. This course on the other hand will not only help you define your personal objectives, but will also assist you make your career objectives based on better understanding of yourself and your surrounding realities. 

Career Objectives

Career objectives are specific results you aim to achieve within a given time frame considering your personality, set of interests and values, abilities including; skills, talent, and education and the available resources within your immediate and distant relevant environments among others.  

There are several factors to consider when defining a career objective. Your current position at work should be your first consideration followed by socio-economic benefits that comes along with it, and as stated earlier the nature and amount of resources you have at your disposal at the given time.

You probably have a job but it’s not exactly working out for you given your goals in life. You may have tried a few options but none has worked. Well, don’t give up just yet. You have the options to climb up the ladder at your current work, to drop it and find an alternative venture or to establish your own business to do while at it.

Performance Appraisal

Performance appraisal is the evaluation of self in relation to certain pre-established criteria and personal objectives. It also involves looking at your position in respect to how far you can go in life considering your own skills, talents, values, and abilities. It also involves the load you are carrying in terms of circumstances and responsibilities towards your set goal. Find out what next you want to be in life. Then, see if you have the aptitude you require. If you don’t, see if you can get the skills via an advanced degree program or a short course online. 

Since time is of significant essence considering your age, conducting performance appraisal will not only help you realize your true potentials, it will also save you a lot of time since you will be more able to focus on what you can achieve. At this point you should be able to reflect on your new knowledge on self-esteem, personalities, self-portrait, positive thinking, negative thoughts, goal setting, realities and responsibilities in regards to not only defining but also creating a better career objective for yourself.
